The monograph reflects the condition of contemporary literary theory that keeps generating new concepts aimed at narrowly defined features of literary texts and contexts with no reference to a wider conceptual framework. Instead of such ego-centric production of new vocabulary, the authors turn back figuratively to language as a space of interrelated entities. Inspired by analytic and neo-pragmatic philosophy, the book offers an analysis of the ways certain theoretical concepts of literary studies and aesthetics are not merely coined but also developed, transferred from their original contexts, and situated into new vertical or horizontal hierarchies.
